2.1 Eugene Arthur Elton (1873-1936)
(For more biographical detail on Eugene Arthur Elton go to top left above header and click on "E. A. Elton" subheading.
Eugene Arthur Elton circa 1903 with wife Emma (Wheadon) Elton (left) and Myra Scofield (right). By 1903 Eugene
and Emma Elton had been married for about 7 years and had 4 children: Gratia (1897), Eugene (1898), Arthur (1900), and Margaret (1902).

Eugene Arthur Elton stands to the far right. Next to him is his wife, Emma. "Margie" (3.1.4 Margaret I. Elton), Eugene Elton's daughter, is standing to the far left, next to her uncle, Eugene's brother, 2.2 George Elton. The woman standing in the middle with her arms clasped around George's neck is the same woman photographed with 2.6 Clara Belle Elton and her wedding party on the front steps of 2.4 Ester Elton-Stannert's house in Sacramento (see Old Photos 2.6+, section 2.6). The woman is wearing the exact same dark frock, the same white carnation garnish above her left front hip pocket, and the same dark neck ornament with black dangling tassle. It is the same woman in the same dress and so the photo was presumably taken around the same time as Clara Belle Elton's wedding to Dick Werner in June 1922. The woman has been identified as 3.2.1 Beatrice Elton, George Elton's only daughter.
This photo was most likely taken on 2.6 Clara Belle Elton's wedding day, June 7, 1922, so the location of the photo must be either Sacramento, California, where the wedding took place, or nearby Woodland, where Clara was living at the time. Also note Margaret's outfit. The top half is nearly identical to the one she wore that day (which was also her wedding day at Aunt Ester Elton-Stannert's house in Sacramento), and the skirt is also very similar, except the hem has been lowered by about 5 inches as can be seen in her official wedding portrait with her groom, Albert Lauritsen (hem-line is still very visible) (see photo below in section 3.1.4). It should also be noted that Beatrice was Margaret's matron-of-honor that day:

Left. Portrait of Eugene Arthur Elton as a young man, probably around 18 years of age, Cacheville (=Yolo), California, circa 1891, shortly before the death of his father, Nathan Monroe Elton in 1893. Right. Eugene Arthur Elton most likely in his late 40s, which would place this photo somewhere in the late 1910s. In the early 1910s Eugene was self-employed and living off of "own income". By 1913, however, he was working for the West Sacramento Co., as a "land agent", selling farm land in the fertile West Sacramento flood plains area of southern Yolo County.
Cell-phone captures of both photos were gifted by jdf and originate from her mother's collection.

Elton and his brothers George (center) and Nathan Marvin "Dick" Elton (right) pose for the camera with their sisters Esther (Elton) Elton-Stannert (left) and Claire "Clara" Belle (Elton) Werner (right, in light pleated skirt), in front of Pacific Paraffine's lone oil derrick, western Yolo County near Esparto, California, 1923. The oil derrick and accompanying well came about largely due to Eugene Elton's conviction that there was economically recoverable oil in the western Yolo County area. That the well came up dry did not dampen his enthusiasm, however. For more details see the page labeled "E. A. Elton".
3.1.1 Gratia (Elton) George (1897-1956)
Petaluma-Argus Courier, Nov 15, 1956, p.4 (Petaluma, California)
Left. Gratia (Elton) George sits to the right on the front steps of her rural Napa home with her first born, Emily Jane George (b. Dec 1918). Sitting in the middle is her sister-in-law, Helen Winifred (Lowrey) Elton, with her first born, Eugene Monroe "Mo" Elton (b. May 1919). Gratia's mother, Emma (Whedon/ Wheadon) Elton, sits to the far left in the dark day dress. The photo must have been taken in the summer of 1919 in Napa, California.
Right. Gratia stands far right in cover-all day dress in this undated photo from the early 1920s, possibly Napa, California or Sebastopol in Sonoma County, California. Her mother, Emma (Whedon/ Wheadon) Elton stands in the middle, and her younger sister, Myra V. Elton, holding a slightly older Emily Jane George, stands to the left in the gingham day dress. Emily looks to be about 2 years old, so my guess is the photo was taken sometime in late 1920 or early 1921, (In the original photo Whedon is standing to the left of the crop, to the left of Myra.)
Both photos are cell-phone captures gifted by jdf and originate from her mother's collection.

Down on the farm. Gratia's husband (or soon-to-be-husband) Joseph "Joe" George (b.1898 in the Azores, Portugal) stands between her two younger brothers, Eugene Whedon "Whedon" Elton (b.1898) on the left and Arthur Monroe
"Art" Elton (b. 1900) on the right. The farm was located in or near Freestone, Sonoma Co., California, about half-way between Sebastopol and Bodega Bay. Joe George was or would be about to become a foreman at a tannery in or near Napa, California by 1923 and would employ Whedon as a tanner with the company after the war. Judging from the youthful appearance of these three boys, the photo was probably taken circa 1916, before Whedon enlisted in the US Army 28 May 1916, his 18th birthday, almost a year before America declared war on Germany 06 Apr 1917. Whedon served honorably and was discharged July 1919. Gratia married Joe George in July 1918 and they remained married until her death in 1956.

The Press Democrat, 24 Feb 1938, p.5 (Santa Rosa, California).
Down on the farm. In this photo Eugene Whedon "Whedon" Elton (b.1898) is the tall boy in overalls standing on the left, Joseph "Joe" George (b.1898 in the Azores, Portugal) is standing between, and Whedon's younger brother Arthur Monroe "Art" Elton (b. 1900) is standing on the right. Eugene "Whedon" Elton stands to the left of his younger sister 3.1.5 Myra V. Elton, mother Emma (Whedon/ Wheadon) Elton, and
older sister, Gratia (Elton) George on the right in this undated photo. The toddler was identified as Emily Jane George (b. Dec 1918), and if so, the photo was likely taken in late 1920 or early 1921 in Napa in Napa County or Freestone or Sebastopol in Sonoma County, California.

Eugene "Whedon" Elton stands tallest in the middle of this group photo. His younger brother 3.1.3 Arthur "Art" Elton, holding his blond-haired baby son Monroe "Mo" Elton, stands to the left. Helen Winifred (Lowrey) Elton, 3.1.3 Art's wife, stands in front of her husband. Based on the apparent age of baby "Mo" Elton (b. May 1919), the photo must have been taken sometime in 1921, maybe in Napa, Freestone, or Sebastopol, California. The boy standing in the middle of the group is Elwin Elton (b. Jan 1907), Whedon's youngest brother and the baby of the family. 3.1.1 Gratia (Elton) George, Whedon's older sister, stands behind Elwin in the back row. The rest of the people are unidentified, but the man standing on the far right could be Joe George holding his toddller daughter Emily Jane George, or maybe not.
This is another group photo several years later showing Emma (Wheadon) Elton with 5 or her 6 children (all except Gratia). 3.1.2 "Whedon" Elton stands tall in the back row with hat on the left. The man in the middle was identified as Art Elton, and the young man on the right was identified as 3.1.6 Elwin C. Elton (b. Jan 1907). Based on Elwin's apparent age (20?), the photo may have been taken circa 1927 before his marriage in May of that year. Emma (Wheadon) Elton, Whedon, Art, and Elwin's mother, is the older woman standing in front on the left. Behind her is 3.1.5 Myra V. (Elton) Perry (later Fanslow) holding her mother, and standing to the right in front is a woman labeled as "Marge" (3.1.4 Margaret Ida (Elton) Lauritsen). Art is in his farmer overalls, so maybe the photo was taken in Freestone or Sebastopol, California.

4.1.2.1 Marjorie Joan (Elton) (Smith) Rehfeld (1922-1998).
Marjorie Joan (Elton) (Smith) Rehfeld, age about 40, Washington State, about 1962. Marjorie was raised in Sonoma Co., (Santa Rosa?), California. Marjorie was born 14 October 1922 and was first married 06 Mar 1939 in Carson City, Nevada to Edwin Smith, whom she divorced sometime around 1940. She would later marry Dick Rehfeld on Saturday, 08 May 1948 in Santa Rosa, California. The couple took their honeymoon in Oregon.

This is an Oakland Tribune article from 08 July 1929. Arthur Elton and his wife Helen (Lowrey) Elton (1899-1988) were living outside of Napa on Central Avenue in rural Napa Co., California, when the house they were renting caught fire with their four children sleeping inside. Helen was able to rescue all four children before the house burned to the ground. The oldest, Eugene Monroe Elton (4.1.3.1), was only 10 years old at the time. The youngest, Arthur Lowrey "Babe" Elton (4.1.3.4), was still just an infant.

Undated photo of Helen Winifred Lowrey (Mrs. Art Elton) as a young woman possibly in the rolling hill country around Petaluma, Sonoma Co., California, near the area (Two Rock) where she was born (23 Dec 1899). jdf thinks it might be the area around Freestone or possibly Sebastopol, also in Sonoma County. Helen and Art were married 02 Aug 1918 in Sonoma County, California. They would have 6 children together, five boys and one girl.
Arthur Monroe "Art" Elton, circa 1927, as a young man, center in overalls. This photo may have been taken in or near Sebastopol in Sonoma County when Art was still working on a farm near Freestone, California. Art's WW2 draft registration described him at age 42 (as of 15 Oct 1942), as being 5'8" in height, 170 lbs, having a ruddy complexion with hazel-colored eyes and brown hair. By 1942 Art was working for the State of California in Highway Maintenance and living in
Napa, Napa Co., California with his wife Helen and their children.

Nov 1932), mom Helen (Lowrey) Elton in light-colored dress, Eugene Monroe "Monroe" or "Mo" Elton (b. May 1919) seated wearing a black sleeveless pullover.
Art Elton (in overalls and hat) , wife Helen (Lowrey) Elton and kids including dog Pluto, circa 1938, Park Ave., Napa, California. Aaron Elton (b. July 1921) is standing in the back with slicked back blonde hair. Bob Elton (b. Dec 1923) is standing center in short-sleeved white shirt. Eugene "Monroe" or simply "Mo" Elton (b. May 1919) is standing to the right in plaid shirt. Arthur Lowrey "Babe" Elton (b. Oct 1927) is the blond-haired boy seated left front with white shirt holding Pluto. Helen Laverne Elton (b. Nov 1932) is seated right in front in dark sweater looking at Pluto.
Art Elton, his mother Emma (Wheadon) Elton, son Aaron Elton and granddaughter Janice Diane Elton, circa 1944 or 1945, Napa, California. Art's mother Emma lived with his sister Myra (Elton) Fanslow, in a small mother-in-law cottage off the side of the Fanslow's house until her passing in April 1961 at age 86.
Art and Helen (Lowrey) Elton, sporting a casual look, probably sometime in the late 1950s, probably on vacation. Love how daughter Helen calls her dad "Art".

else? If anybody has any ideas about who the other children might be please feel free to let me know.

4.1.3.1 Eugene Monroe "Mo" Elton (1919-2002).
Eugene Monroe "Mo" Elton as a young man. Assuming this is a high school yearbook photo taken in his senior year, then the year would be 1936 or 1937.
4.1.3.2 Aaron Edmund Elton (1921-2011).
Aaron Elton (b. July 1923) as an older teenager swinging the bat, probably circa 1940. Aaron played minor league pro baseball in 1941 for a Boston Red Sox farm team, playing third base while batting .300. He was later drafted in the U.S. Army for service in World War II. His younger brother Bob Elton is behind him playing catcher.

4.1.3.3 Robert Lowell Elton (1923-1966)
Bob Elton enlisted in the army in 1944 when World War 2 was still raging. This photo was likely taken around that time (circa 1944) as he is in his army service uniform. He turned 20 on 18 December 1943 and enlisted the following April at the Presidio, Monterey, California. He married Virginia Vesper before he left for Europe He survived the war but in the end would not have a long life dying in 1966 at age 42 in a car accident.

4.1.3.5 Helen Laverne (Elton) Forsythe (1932-present)
Art and Helen (Lowrey) Elton's youngest daughter, Helen Laverne Elton, was born 28 Nov 1932 in Napa, Napa County, California.
Once again we'll assume high school yearbook photo, senior year, for the photo on the left, so the place would be Napa and the year would be 1939 or 1940. Is there something in Napa's water supply? The undated photo on the right of Helen, who since the early 1950s has been known as Mrs. Roger Forsythe or simply Helen Forsythe, clearly shows that there is something special about the water in Napa and Sonoma Counties, California.
